In October 2025, Transforma Insights published the latest iteration of the Communications Service Provider IoT Peer Benchmarking Report, its analysis of the strategies of 27 leading global providers of cellular connectivity for the Internet of Things (IoT), both mobile network operators (MNOs) and IoT mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs). Matt Hatton, the founding partner of Transforma Insights, shares its findings.
As a result of the extensive analysis undertaken for the report – as well as the ongoing research that Transforma Insights does on technical and commercial best practice in all aspects of cellular-based IoT connectivity – we are able to do two things. Firstly, draw a set of conclusions about how the IoT connectivity market, and specifically that related to cellular connectivity, has evolved since the last report was published in July 2024. Secondly, provide our view on which companies are best able to support enterprise IoT requirements.
This article explores those key trends and which are the market leaders.
24 key themes and three mega-trends
The report highlights 24 key themes that emerge from the research. This includes themes such as the growing focus on ensuring compliance, the fragmentation of network technologies and the challenges that brings, opportunities in 5G, new emerging commercial models and channels to market, and approaches to addressing different sectors, amongst other things.
